Digital assistants: past, present and future

Digital assistants: past, present and future

digital assistant.png

Past: “Tell me a joke”
Computerised voice, cannot hold conversations, limited intelligence. Good for retrieving information from the internet and for simple use cases. I feel more intelligent than the machine.

Now: ”Mm-hmm”
Google Duplex can make calls to book appointments, people think they are talking to another human, natural voice and advanced AI in all their glory. This is what we wished for, but how do you feel now?  Scared, nervous, excited?

Future: “Forget your poker face”
Digital assistant understands your emotional state, tone of voice, pupil dilation, gestures, etc. It doesn’t matter what you think or feel, your assistant knows best. She knows when is time to listen to your messages, to play that relaxing music to calm you down or when you are ready to purchase….

Would you feel better if we slow down? Well… there are no brakes…!

Make novel connections, ask interesting questions, have a human-centred vision. For anything else we ‘ll ask your digital self!
