Automotive Infotainment HMI
Touchscreen, natural language and vision interaction.
These will be the main modalities for in-car interaction within the next 5 years (for example see: Porsche Mission E Cross Turismo)
1) The number of physical buttons will be reduced significantly (for examples see: new Ford Focus, VW Touareg & Tesla Model 3)
2) Rotary controllers will be phased out (for examples that abandoned the rotary controller see: new Mercedes A-Class and Audi A8)
3) Air gestures will have limited functionality, more of a technology demonstration rather than the main way to interact with the car.
Other technologies to watch:
a) Windscreen Head-Up-Display with augmented reality features
b) "Smart glass" surfaces with displays embedded into glass (panoramic roof, windscreen, etc.)
c) Virtual reality as an enabler for passenger entertainment
